Pesky bugs terrorising homes

THE annual invasion of giant flying beetles called cockchafers has begun. 

The bugs, which grow to more than an inch long, have been living underground for three to four years as larvae feeding on grass roots.

Female common cockchafers will lay up to 80 eggs around 8in beneath the soil, where the grubs will then hatch.
