Threads, described as a "text-based conversation app", will go live tomorrow.
Tech expert Matt Navarra said: "Threads is the first real, credible threat to Elon Musk's Twitter."
But Twitter user Ian Miles Cheong warned: "No one in their right minds should be using Threads, just look at all the data it compiles on you."
Musk gained 4.42million extra followers on Twitter in the past 30 days after Tesla cut prices of its cars.
