THE verbal rivalry between George Russell and Max Verstappen exploded yesterday.
It began in the FIA press conference when Verstappen accused his rival of being dishonest in trying to get the stewards to penalise the Dutchman last Sunday.
Red Bull racer Verstappen said: "In my whole career I've never experienced what I experienced in the stewards' room in Qatar. For me, that was really unacceptable.
"I never expected someone actually try to get someone a penalty, lying about doing what I was doing."
In response, Brit Russell alleged that Verstappen had made a threat of violence against him ahead of the race. He said: "I don't see why he felt the need for this personal attack, and I'm not going to take it.
