A SCHOOLBOY jumped into a freezing lake to try to save two people. 
Lewis Elston, 13, was fishing with dad Mark, 60, when they saw a man and woman, and a dog in the water.
The teenager instinctively jumped in and managed to drag the dog to the bank.
His dad called the emergency services, who helped rescue the woman.
Tragically, the man died during the incident in Leigh-on-Sea, Essex. He has not been named.
Lewis said: &ldquo;I didn&rsquo;t really think about it, I just went in, but I am quite a strong swimmer. I just jumped in, the water was really cold.&rdquo; He added it was &ldquo;sad&rdquo; as the man had died but said: &ldquo;I&rsquo;m proud that I did what I could.&rdquo;
Mark, a delivery driver, said: &ldquo;Lewis did a terrific job, I&rsquo;m very proud of him.&rdquo;
The father and son said they thought the couple got into trouble after the man went into the lake to try to rescue a dog.
Essex Police added: &ldquo;Officers recovered a man from the water and sadly, despite the best efforts of paramedics at the scene, he has died.&rdquo;
