WHY I DITCHED THE JAFFA CAKES

Minutes after unpacking my weekly food shop, I grabbed the double pack of jaffa cakes I had I just bought and flopped onto the sofa.

As the tangy orange flavour melted in my mouth, all my stresses ebbed away. But before I knew it, I was holding an empty wrapper and all that was left was a scattering of crumbs in my lap.

While I felt a little guilty for my greedy ways, I ate another pack the following day.

It was May 2008 and I wasn't too worried. Apart from my jaffa cake addiction and my daily chocolate ice cream, my diet was pretty healthy and my busy job as a cardiac genetics nurse specialist kept me active.
