Enthusiasts welcomed the classic New Year at events right across the UK.
Brooklands, believed to be the biggest national gathering, drew 1119 cars and a record crowd of 5755 people. The amazing assortment – everything from a slammed Austin Allegro estate to a serene Rolls-Royce Phantom VI – was on show all around the venue, with extra space available on the recently re-opened Finishing Straight.
Pre-war motors congregated in front of the Clubhouse, including David Naylor’s MG L2 Magna Sports, which competed in a works entry at Brooklands in the 1933 12 Hour Race – the year that the car was built. Calum Hamilton’s fascinating ’37 Autovia Sportsman – one of only 36 of these hemi-head V8-powered cars built by the Riley offshoot – drew lots of attention.
