Strawberry shortcake is to spring what apple pie is to fall. And if this seasonal dessert brings you to your knees, then this easy-to-make, sweet and fresh-tasting recipe is for you.
ONCE STRAWBERRIES COME INTO SEASON, strawberry shortcake becomes THE dessert to make. And if this seasonal favorite is one of your favorites, you won’t be able to resist this take on the iconic dessert. All the components are repackaged into a bar, perfect for taking to a potluck or party. And as with any fresh fruit dessert, it’s only as good as the fruit you make it with, so look for plump, juicy berries.
The bars are made with a strawberry-studded shortcake dough, then sandwiched with a layer of strawberry jam right in the middle. And it’s worth noting, there’s a secret ingredient in the dough — white chocolate. It adds creaminess to the baked crust without making it dense. Be sure to use a bar of white chocolate in this recipe. The chips typically contain less cocoa butter than the bars, so they won’t melt as well.
