Gwendoline Christie on cops, warriors and stormtroopers
Gwendoline Christie is instantly recognisable the world over as the statuesque warrior Brienne of Tarth in Game of Thrones. But audiences are currently seeing a very different side to the British actress thanks to her role in Jane Campion’s disturbing cop thriller Top of the Lake: China Girl.
In the drama’s second season, Christie plays conflicted, sensitive and often bumbling Sydney police officer Miranda Hilmarson, who follows her mentor Robin Griffin (Elisabeth Moss) around like an enthusiastic puppy.
The 38-year-old actress, who stands 6ft 3in, is also known for her roles in The Hunger Games and as Captain Phasma in the Star Wars franchise, and will next be seen reprising the role in Star Wars: The Last Jedi this Christmas.
