Located in Shamshabad, about 20 km south of Hyderabad city, the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) serves as the main air hub for the state of Telangana. Opened in 2008 as a public-private venture by GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd., it is the world’s first airport to receive the British Safety Council’s five-star certification for Health and Safety Management System. It is a carbon neutral site as it is the first one in the Asia-Pacific region to receive ‘Level 3+ Carbon Neutrality’ accreditation in its category. It serves as a focus city for IndiGo and acts as the main hub for Air India Regional, Blue Dart Aviation, SpiceJet, Lufthansa Cargo and TruJet.
