Although digital imaging arrived at the turn of the century, it was not until 2007 that manufacturers realised that there was no need for the mirror and the spacecum-weight thus saved could be used to redesign cameras that were smaller and weighed less.
Panasonic were first off the mark with the Lumix G1 in 2007. Others like Olympus, Fujifilm and Sony were quick to follow. The D-SLR majors – Canon and Nikon preferred to watch from the sidelines and made lackluster attempts to enter the mirrorless market with ‘fun’ products.
However, the ones to decide the winners are you, the consumers. More and more people across the world started taking to mirrorless cameras. Japan and Europe were the first to take off. The US was slow but soon started to catch up. Based on current statistics, it won’t be long before mirrorless cameras take over in the rest of the world. Sony is currently leading the charge with its full-frame α series. Both Canon and Nikon are working feverishly to launch their ‘series’ mirrorless cameras by the end of the year.
In this article, we list the Top 10 mirrorless cameras in the world market today. Interestingly, there is one for every type of user.
1. SONY α9
With the Sony α9, mirrorless cameras finally arrived. The α9 has been designed for high speed sports action shooting from the ground upwards and clearly fills the gap that was there in the mirrorless camera market. The α9 has the following attributes:
- An entirely new 24MP sensor
- 20 frames per second shooting in full resolution Raw
- Completely silent, no distortion electronic shutter
- Large clear viewfinder that is completely free from black-out
- Autofocus tracking across the entire frame
All this technology and innovation, however, comes at a price and the α9 stands at the pinnacle of mirrorless cameras as far as price is concerned.
2. SONY α7R MARK III
