NEW REALITY
Challenge Anneka
Saturday, 8.50pm, Channel 5
Between 1989 and 1995, Challenge Anneka was must-watch TV, as viewers followed jumpsuit-wearing presenter Anneka Rice and her trusty sidekick Dave the soundman as they attempted to complete ambitious community projects to ridiculously tight deadlines with the help of volunteers.
Now, Rice is back on our screens with a four-part reboot and some even bigger and bolder jobs, including a challenge to build a giant food bank, as well as an outdoor centre for vulnerable teens.
‘Apart from satnav in the famous blue buggy and our production team being able to contact people online, rather than sifting through the Yellow Pages, viewers will find it weirdly similar,’ says Rice, now 64, who has since appeared on shows like Strictly Come Dancing and Richard Osman’s House of Games.
