In a life where words can often fail to fully express the human experience, creative therapy is a light of hope and healing for many. From the stroke of a paintbrush to the rhythm of a drumbeat, the power of creativity goes beyond language and leads us right into uncharted territories of the inner souls. Creative therapy helps to harness that power and shape it into expression and, ultimately, healing and growth.
Being creative is not about being artistic. It is not bound to a single style or doing a particular activity. This form of psychological treatment embraces creative processes such as art, music, drama, or movement to encourage exploration and self-expression and promote calm, healing and personal growth.
WHAT IS CREATIVE THERAPY?
Many of us don't see ourselves as 'creative types', simply because we weren't naturally good at art, music or writing growing up. But the reality is, creativity is something that can be developed: as Maya Angelou so wisely believed, creativity cannot be used up. Using it can only create more. Creativity is the art of turning new and imaginative ideas into reality but it's also about finding unique solutions to problems. This can be applied to creative hobbies, but also to life. Difficulties, changes, and stressors are ingredients of daily life, so the ability to think in an original way is imperative for wellness. It takes some creativity to make life's challenges more manageable, bring order to chaos and gain control over your life.
