Dame Laura Kenny's news that she is expecting a third child with fellow Olympic cyclist Sir Jason is a proud moment for the Team GB power couple.
Laura lost two pregnancies within five months in 2021 and 2022, and feared her years of competing at the top level of international sport may have left her with fertility problems.
Happily as revealed by the social media images of Albie, seven, and Monty, one, wearing T-shirts reading: "I'm going to be a big brother to a baby such fears are in the past.
Laura, who won two golds in both 2012 and 2016, wrote on New Year's Eve: "2024 was wonderful, 2025 is going to be even more special." But her comments days earlier, as she looked back on her previous struggles, still raise questions.
She said: "Was my body just running on empty, and then it said: "There's no way we can do this?' "Every training session, I went in there to give 100%, every race I went in there to give 100%. I took it to the limit - if I wasn't sick after a race, I'd be like: 'Did I try hard enough?"
Olympic swimming champion Rebecca Adlington, who has endured the heartbreak of miscarriage twice, has also talked about her fertility struggles as an elite athlete.
