HAMMER OF THE SCOTS

TOMMY CONWAY only needs one chance.

It's just as well then the striker has been handed the biggest opportunity of all by Scotland boss Steve Clarke.

The Bristol City man has been called up to the national squad for the first time ahead of tomorrow night's Hampden friendly with Finland.

Conway has been promoted from the Under-21s after Lyndon Dykes' cruel training-ground injury ruled him out of the Euros.

But there's no chance of him being in awe, not according to the guy who is a Bristol City legend, Conway's kitman and compatriot Scott Murray.

Instead, Murray reckons his pupil could be about to take Germany by storm - just as he proved when he set about West Ham.

He said: "Tommy Face Timed me after he was called up to the full squad, so he was buzzing.

He won't be fazed by anything.

"He has taken everything at Bristol City in his stride. That is the type of character he is.

"Tommy is a young lad and when you are at that age you don't feel pressure. You just go out and play your football and enjoy yourself. You don't think about anything else.

"The senior players will probably feel the pressure a bit more because of the expectation.

"Tommy will go out there, give his all and if he gets the chance he'll score. He won't be thinking about anything else.

"He won't let Scotland down if he gets the chance, that is for sure. I am excited for him. He now has a chance to net a place in the Scotland squad for Euro 2024.
