‘We bought the house in July 2018 and rented it out to a family for a year before starting the renovation last summer and finally moving in just two days before Christmas. The house had been rented out for many years before we bought it so we pretty much gutted the contents, opening up the kitchen and living space and extending to create a more family-friendly open-plan space,’ says Jenny.

The original kitchen had to go. ‘We felt the old kitchen was dated and unloved and space did not serve our growing family well. We have a toddler (Anna) and a second baby on the way (any day now!) so we wanted to open up the kitchen and living area and include a dining area. We both like to cook and entertain so having a sociable and practical layout was our goal. It also makes keeping an eye on a busy two-year-old much easier!’
