There have been several assassinations attempts upon the Presidents of US, ranging from the early 19th century to present day.

Andrew Jackson has been the first president to have attempted an assassination upon him. Fortunately, the attempt failed and the president lived. Four sitting Presidents of US: Abraham Lincoln, James A. Garfield, William McKinley, John F. Kennedy have been killed in the assassination attempts plotted against him. Ronald Reagan is the U.S only president to have been injured in an assassination attempt in an office and survive. Theodore Roosevelt has also been the US president who has been injured in an assassination attempt. Recently, Donald Trump has joined the list when, in a failed assassination on 14 July 2024, a bullet which was supposed to hit his head, grazed his ear and left him alive. Donald Trump's assassination is the first in 43 years after Ronald Reagan, to have been plotted and executed.

Thomas Matthew Crooks, a 20-year-old, is the main suspect of the attempted assassination of Trump, according to the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and was killed by US Secret Services agents. The attack at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, injured Trump and critically injured two others, while one participant was killed. The alleged shooter is said to have used the AR15 semi-automatic rifle to carry out the killing. Trump is the first candidate since George C. Wallace in 1972 to be wounded by a shooter on the campaign trail.
