There's no way you could have missed the news that an Indian is elected as the Prime Minister of United Kingdom now and all the things that follow. It feels surreal to come to know this but, it is true.
Finally, the day came where India got a chance to be on top of its colonialists, almost literally. Rishi Sunak created history by becoming the first person of colour to become the prime minister of UK. He also is recognised as the first practicing Hindu to lead the country.
Rishi Sunak was born on 12 May 1980 in Southampton to Indian parents who had moved from East Africa to UK in 1960s. Sunak's grandfathers were both born in Punjab province, British India, and emigrated to East Africa. His father, Yashvir Sunak is a general practitioner in the National Health Service and his mother, Usha Sunak is the director and pharmacist at the Sunak Pharmacy in Southampton and has a degree from Aston University. The eldest of three children, Sunak was educated at a private boarding school, Winchester College, which costs £43,335 a year to attend. Sunak went on to study politics, philosophy and economics at the University of Oxford. He was awarded a first-class degree. He later gained a master's of business administration (MBA) at Stanford University, where he met Akshata Murty, his future wife, who is the daughter of the Indian Billionaire, NR Narayana Murthy, the founder of Infosys. The couple have two daughters, Krishna and Anoushka.
Sunak worked as an Analyst in Goldman Sachs and later as a partner at the hedge fund firms, The Children's Investment Fund Management and Theleme Partners. Sunak was elected to the House of Commons for Richmond in North Yorkshire at the 201 general election, succeeding William Hague.
Sunak supported Brexit in the 2016 referendum on EU membership.
