When life gets too hectic or hot for those living in Jakarta, they mostly do one thing – head to the hills. Literally.
By that I mean they get into their cars once Friday rolls around, and brave the jams out of the Indonesian capital to higher ground and cooler climate. Some look to Bogor or Puncak, about an hour or so south of the city. But for those who really want to get away, Indonesia’s third most populated urban hub, Bandung, is a further two hours to the east.
What you get for making that three-hour drive into West Java’s picturesque highlands is significantly lower temperatures and humidity. In fact, this beautiful, mountainous area offers the best of all worlds when it comes to discovering a golf getaway.
Good value and quality places to stay – check. Wide range of food and beverage choices – check. Shopping outlets and malls to quench retail desires – check. Top quality golf courses at which to tee it up – well, hold on there.
Yes, golf in Bandung has been good and well for many years, the attraction being great value for money, and the advantage of playing in cool climate. But it has needed a top-quality, international-standard golf course that can pique the interest of a more exacting golf market for a while.
With Parahyangan Golf, it now has one. The Bob Moore/JMP Golf Design course in Kota Bahru, a township about an hour west of Bandung, opened for play in November 2018, and truly ups the ante for golf in this part of West Java.
Together with a modern, well-appointed clubhouse, Parahyangan should surge into the list of top golf resorts in the country, ticking all the boxes for those who like to travel and play.
