Since its original introduction in 1967, the Sea-Dweller has been a companion to the pioneers of professional deep-sea diving, who spend extended periods of time underwater. This ultra-resistant tool watch accompanied the first experimental underwater habitat programmes, and played a vital role in conquering the ocean depths.
The watch proudly features the Rolex Oyster case, crafted from a solid block of particularly corrosion-resistant Oystersteel. The to escape during a diver’s decompression phase in a hyperbaric chamber, while preserving the waterproofness of the watch at the same time. Lesser timepieces without this feature have been known to catastrophically malfunction during decompression.
For 2019, Rolex is introducing the Oyster Perpetual Sea-Dweller in a yellow gold Rolesor version, combining Oystersteel and 18 ct yellow gold to the Sea-Dweller range for the first time in history. Rolesor is the combination of 18 ct gold and Oystersteel on a Rolex watch and has been a signature feature of the brand since 1933 when the name was registered.
A meeting of two metals; one noble and precious, attractive for its lustre and stability; the other, highly resistant, known for its strength and reliability. Perfectly mirroring the elegance and performance that come together in a Rolex watch.
