Smith the hero as Warriors hold on to break losing streak

Adrian Lam was grateful for Harry Smith’s crucial try and a late forward pass decision, as desperate Wigan finally ended a five-match losing run.

Half-back Smith supported a Liam Farrell break just after the hour mark to give Wigan the lead for the first time after they trailed by 12 points early on.

But Louis Senior’s disallowed try for an Ashton Golding forward pass in the closing stages was just as important, as Lam’s side hung on.

Lam (right), who had another encouraging performance from young back-rower Kai Pearce-Paul, said: “It was frustrating watching the game.

“We had a good start and then conceded two tries against the run of play.
