SUNSEEKERS flocked to beaches on one of the hottest days of the year yesterday.

Temperatures peaked at 27.9C as football fans packed beer gardens to enjoy pints in the sunshine as they watched England’s victory in their Euro 2020 opening game.

Parts of the UK were hotter than popular holiday destinations including Ibiza and Athens.

And forecasters say temperatures could creep up to 30C today in London and the South East.

Beachgoers crammed on to the sands at Scarborough, North Yorks, Bournemouth, Dorset, and St Ives in Cornwall yesterday.
