CONTROVERSIAL plans to house asylum seekers at an old military airbase have been put on hold amid a legal fight.
RAF Wethersfield in Essex was unveiled last month as one of two airfields to be used, alongside RAF Scampton in Lincolnshire.
But Home Secretary Suella Braverman has had delay the plan for Wethersfield after Braintree&nbsp;District Council got the go-ahead on Thursday night for a High Court bid to halt the move.
The council will have its case heard on April 19. It said: "The Home Office has confirmed they will not move asylum seekers on to Wethersfield Airfield until after the hearing and will only do so if they succeed in defending their position against our injunction.
It said the site is unsuitable due&nbsp;to its isolation, lack of capacity in local services and the "impact upon the local community".
Lib Dem Home Affairs spokesman Alistair Carmichael said: "This latest gimmick looks like it will fail before it even begins."
The Home Office said: "We understand the concerns and will work closely with councils and key partners to manage the impact.
