SMILING Sheridan Smith put her stage-show setback behind her at the Oliver Awards last night.
The 42-year-old looked dazzling in a sparkling sheer gown even though her West End show Opening Night is to close early after poor reviews.
Sheridan was nominated for the Best Actress Olivier Award for her role as Shirley Valentine.
She was pipped to the award by Sarah Snook, star of The Picture of Dorian Gray. Other stage stars at the event included Sister Act star Beverley Knight, not nominated but stealing the show in a red dress anyway.
The first prize awarded at the ceremony, hosted by Hannah Waddingham, was for Best Actor. Andrew Scott, nominated for his role in Chekhov's Uncle Vanya, was beaten by The Motive and the Cue star Mark Gatiss.
He called for more arts funding, saying: "It's not an elitist thing. It's essential."
Best Actress in a Musical winner Nicole Scherzinger was there with fiance Thom Evans. Her show Sunset Boulevard also won Best Musical Revival at the event at the Royal Albert Hall in Central London.
David Tennant, nominated for Best Actor, was with wife Georgia.
