In this year’s Tully, Mackenzie Davis soared as a Mary Poppins-ish night-nurse to Charlize Theron’s harried mum. How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World
Having been deprived of a limb in the first How To Train Your Dragon and a loving father in the second, youthful Viking Hiccup (Jay Baruchel) has suffered enough, you might think. Yet the third entry in DreamWorks’ heart-stirring fantasy series has one more trauma to inflict on its callow protagonist: the prospect of a fond farewell to his scaly companion Toothless, a dragon whose slim hopes of survival depend on getting as far away from humankind as possible.
Instant Family
From the director (Sean Anders) and star (Mark Wahlberg) of the Daddy’s Home movies comes another film about the travails of parenting, only this time inching into more serious territory. Instant Family is, for Anders, a personal picture: its tale of Pete (Wahlberg) and Ellie (Rose Byrne) adopting three children out of the foster care system is based on his own experiences.

Eigth Grade
On paper, it would be easy to dismiss Eighth Grade as just another high-school movie, infused as it is with the standard quotidian of Gen Z academic life from mean girls and crushes to clueless parents and teachers.

Ant-Man And The Wasp
Back in 2015, Ant-Man was a small hero, with little expectation on his shoulders. Based on one of the sillier-sounding characters from the comics (“I thought they had run out of characters and now they were making them up,” said Evangeline Lilly when first offered the script), it also suffered production problems as original director Edgar Wright departed, replaced at the 11th hour by Peyton Reed.
